The CLA Game Fair, the world’s greatest countryside event returns to Belvoir Castle
One of the UK’s most enjoyable and biggest annual events, The CLA Game Fair is returning to Belvoir Castle this summer on Friday 24 – Sunday 26 July. The CLA Game Fair was last held at Belvoir Castle in 2005 where it was a phenomenal success enjoyed by local families and thousands of visitors who traveled from throughout the UK and abroad to attend.
Such is the scale of this enormous event that many visitors spend 2 or 3 days at the show generating a huge financial boost to local businesses and increasing the tourist trade to the area. When The CLA Game Fair was held at Belvoir Castle in 2005 the economic benefit to the region was £10.5 million. Since then the visitor attendance has continued to increase and more visitors are staying for 2 or 3 days; as a result £13.5 million was generated for the region by The Game Fair when it was held at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire last summer. The average distance UK visitors travel to attend is 114 miles although the many international and national championships and events held at The Game Fair draw visitors from across the world.
Following a record year in 2008 where over 150,000 visitors attended the 50th anniversary of The CLA Game Fair at Blenheim Palace, the organisers are looking forward to returning to Belvoir Castle, a perfect venue for this prestigious event.
As a true celebration of the countryside The Game Fair represents all aspects of rural living from country sports to food, horses, dogs, conservation, wildlife and gardens. Have-a-go is the theme throughout the 500 acre site with the opportunity to try lots of activities from fishing, archery and 4 x 4 driving to dog training, children’s cookery theatre, climbing wall and aerial trekking. Amongst the most popular areas are The Totally Food Show with the British Food Village focusing on local and regionally produced foods, Elegant Gardens, Hooked on Horses; the show for all equestrian enthusiasts and Active Countryside for All with a host of different activities to try including a living Maize Maze. Each year The Game Fair features aspects of conservation and this year the feature will focus on Exploring the Rural Future with a section of a house demonstrating the latest in sustainable living and a guided woodland trail for families to enjoy.
Traditional country sports form the core of The Game Fair with major exhibitions in shooting, fishing, gundogs and falconry with demonstration areas, international and national championships and competitions, specialist exhibitors and the opportunity to see the very best displays and demonstrations by leading personalities and professionals.
