Scarborough Sea-Life Sanctuary May Bank-Holiday challenge

Modern Day Houdini attempts the Death Tank    from our Scarborough correspondent Michaela Bowness  For the first time since a near fatal accident, escapologist Daniel Hunt will be performing the death defying stunt – The Death Tank at Scarborough SEA LIFE and Marine Sanctuary. Daniel will be performing the Death Tank stunt, which involves being handcuffed upside down with his head submerged in water, at Scarborough SEA LIFE and Marine Sanctuary on Monday 26th May.  The last time Daniel performed this stunt was at the Blackpool Opera House, where there was a power cut while he was suspended upside down. Thankfully, after a nail-biting three minutes, power was restored and although feeling unwell, Daniel continued to finish the stunt.

Despite pleas from his family and friends, Daniel is still going to attempt an escape from the Death Tank as a Bank Holiday treat for visitors at Scarborough SEA LIFE and Marine Sanctuary.  Daniel’s appearance and the Death Tank stunt coincide with the arrival of a new creature at Scarborough SEA LIFE – a Giant Pacific Octopus.

A Giant Pacific Octopus is made up of 95% water with the only solid area being the beak. This enables them to squeeze through the smallest of areas without any problems. Octopus are incredibly intelligent creatures and thrive on being challenged. Local store, Early Learning Centre has donated some toys for the new Giant Pacific Octopus to play with – all linked with keeping his mind active and learning at the same time.

Visitors to the centre can also see the four rescued seal pups who have all been patients at the new Seal Rescue Centre since it opened in March 2008. Daniel will be performing the death-defying stunt live at

Scarborough SEA LIFE and it promises to be an event not to be missed:Date:              Monday 26th MayTime:              11.00am
