Teenage health conference at the JCUH

WANT to find out more about teenage health?  Then come along to our teenage conference.  

Children’s services at South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust is holding the national two-day seminar on Monday and Tuesday 12 and 13 November 2007  in the academic centre at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. 

It will be helpful to anyone who comes into contact with young people and is open to all health care professionals including, social workers, police, teachers, doctors, nurses, community workers and health promotion specialists. It will look at teenage health from a parent’s and young person’s perspective and will feature the main areas affecting teenage health today.  The two days are packed with interesting topics including, sex and sexual transmitted infections, obesity anorexia nervosa, learning difficulties and the teenager and terminal care. 

Lily Makurah, adolescent health services manager from The Department of Health is speaking about national development in adolescent health and keynote speakers from

South Tees, other NHS trusts both locally and nationally and organisations involved in working with teenagers will be giving presentations.
  Also included in the two days are talks on the troubled teenager and the child’s voice in the welfare system plus lots more.
 

Mel Gannon, educational support nurse from children’s services who will be chairing the conference said:  “This is an excellent opportunity to share ideas and gain an insight into what is new and share experiences with the key people involved in teenage health.  This is our fourth national conference and each one has been well received and informative.  These events also prove to be an excellent networking opportunity, enabling like minded people to share knowledge and expertise in all teenage issues.”
