Good news for the James Cook University Hospital

TRUST RECEIVES NATIONAL ‘TOP PERFORMER’ AWARD STAFF from

South Tees will officially receive a national award naming the trust as the country’s top performer this week.

In April, The James Cook University Hospital and Friarage

Hospital were ranked as the best performer across 12 key categories including measures of clinical quality, efficiency, access and patient satisfaction in the Dr Foster ‘Good Hospital Guide’. The results placed the trust first in the large hospital category, scoring particularly well against key indicators of clinical quality, mortality, readmissions within 28 days and emergency care performance.  Tomorrow (Tuesday 2 October), Rob Forbes, sales and marketing director of Dr Foster Intelligence will present the chief executive Simon Pleydell with two plaques, which will take pride of place in public areas of both hospitals.
Simon said: “I was absolutely delighted for all staff when we heard we had received this national recognition – they work extremely hard and it was a thoroughly deserved accolade.

“We are genuinely proud of the service we provide to patients at our hospitals and I would hope these plaques will provide a constant reminder that the trust is always working hard to deliver high quality, efficient and safe services.” Chair Glenys Marriott added: “While we’re constantly looking at ways to improve – and build – on the services we provide, this is a fantastic acknowledgement and we’re pleased to accept this award.”

Dr Foster Intelligence is a partnership between The Information Centre for Health and Social Care (a special health authority of the NHS) and Dr Foster, a commercial provider of healthcare information.

South Tees ranked among the best performers in 12 key categories, particularly standing out in measures of clinical quality,” said Rob Forbes.

“The mortality rate, readmission rate and adherence to NICE and clinical guidelines were excellent, providing direct benefits to the patients.  For example, nearly 20 per cent more patients in

South Tees receive CT scans within 24 hours of admission than compared to the national average.”
