PUMPKIN PROBLEMS PLAGUE DUNGEON
Halloween visitors to the York Dungeon are being urged to bring their own pumpkins following a nationwide shortage of the spooky fruit. The poor summer this year has meant that many pumpkin crops have failed, with the survivors left underweight and with an under ripened green colouring. And as a result, the Dungeon is having real problems finding sufficiently healthy pumpkins for the decoration of their Haunted Halloween festival.
Bosses at the Market Street attraction are so desperate for proper sized pumpkins that they have offered completely free entry to anyone bringing an orange Jack O’lantern bigger than a standard football to the Dungeon. “We always go a bit crazy with pumpkins at Halloween but this year we’ve managed to get our hands on so few that we’re having to use other decorations like fake skulls instead,” explained Dungeon manager Helen Douglas.
“Those we have got are not as healthy inside and so go off after a few days leaving us back at square one.” “I was told that I could have some decent sized ones shipped in all the way from Denmark – but they were £10 each!” “That’s why we’re appealing to the public to help us out by bringing decent sized pumpkins – with those that make the grade getting their owners free admission.” Those brought to the Dungeon will complement a host of special spooky surprises planned for the ‘Haunted Halloween’ festival running all the way from October 13th until November 1st.
In keeping with the haunted theme the Dungeon is planning an extra scary additional show designed exclusively for the Halloween period as a vengeful ghost tells the story behind ‘All Hallows Eve’. And Dungeon staff are also eagerly anticipating an event with cult TV hit Most Haunted’s Richard Felix on the 29th October. The supernatural star will be hosting a book signing and question and answer session on his paranormal experiences Haunted Halloween will be running at the York Dungeon from 13th October until the 1st November. The Dungeon will be open from 10.30am until 4.30pm daily. Anybody bringing a healthy pumpkin bigger than a size 5 football will be awarded with free entry to the Dungeon.
