WILLIAM FOX PITT WINS FOURTH BRAMHAM TITLE

With less than one point separating the first four in the Bramham Internaional Senior CCI*** competition going into the Show Jumping today, it was always going to be a tight finish.  William Fox Pitt, in fourth position, put pressure on the three above him with an immaculate clear round within the time, leaving him on a final score of 51.7 on his own and Mrs Jane Kerr’s Macchiato.

Pippa Funnell, lying third overnight on Ensign, had three fences down dropping her to a final placing of 5th.  Polly Stockton, lying second overnight on Westwood Joker, had one fence down and local rider and overnight leader Nicola Wilson riding Skiver dropped the final two fences leaving William Fox Pitt to claim his fourth Bramham title.  He won the title previously in 1995, 2003 and 2005.  Polly Stockton ended the competition in second place on a final score of 55.7 and Nicola Wilson was third on 59.5.  Another Yorkshire rider, Heidi Woodhead riding The Biz was fourth on a final score of 59.8.

William said “I came here with aspirations of finishing in the top ten, but Bramham has often delivered nice surprises for me.  The team here have worked so hard on the event, producing a wonderful course on excellent ground, and to win was fantastic.”

In the Bishop Burton College Under 25 CCI*** 19 year old Emily Galbraith, from Jedburgh in Scotland, retained her overnight lead despite one fence down in the show jumping and ended on a score of 58.8. Emily said “The horse is helpful and careful, and I tried not to think about all the problems people were having on the course before me.”  This is her first three day CCI*** event, and she also won the Pro-Am pairs competition with Pippa Funnell.  Second in the Under 25 CCI*** was Georgie Spence on Running Brook II and third was Melissa Shawcross on Swansong II.

With record numbers of spectators enjoying the sunshine at Bramham Park over the last four days, the event has been a great success.  In addition to the Three Day Event, visitors have been watching Pony Club Games, BSJA Show Jumping Classes and showing classes, all of which have proved extremely popular.
